I recently made an unspeakable mistake, grocery shopping when I was hungry, really hungry. Gasp! I know you’re thinking, “Rookie”, with a little sneery-face right? This was not good for my budget, and sad to say, not good for my sugar-free, refined grain-free lifestyle either. However…
Good news! Something great was born of this mistake ~ a boastable product find that I just can’t help but share. Welcome, Alpendough. You had me at “Double Chocolate” and gluten/dairy free. Under $5 didn’t hurt either. (I know it sounds like a lot, but when you put “vegan” and “gluten-free” on something in a “natural” grocery store, the price automatically jumps at least $3.) But then, I got you home and read your packaging. “Eat raw cookie dough”, you say in step 1. of your directions. You’re giving me permission to do what I already planned on, AND I don’t have to worry about possibly contracting salmonella? (My heart just skipped a beat.) Okay! I can follow directions. Then as I turn the tub over in my hand I read amazing (still has sugar, so only as a splurge) ingredients AND you’re made right here in Colorado (Durango). It’s not like I needed another reason to put you on the top of my Christmas list (hint! hint! ~ not so subtle) and run out to buy every flavor to try, but now I have one.
So I couldn’t hide this from you any longer. Sorry to say I don’t have an actual picture of the dough or cookies, because they quickly made it to my belly. (Yes, they taste amazing too.) I can share their site here. Not because they’re paying me to…or giving me free cookie dough (wouldn’t that be something)…a girl can dream, but because I’m a big softy for small, local companies doing things right.
Here are the ingredients: “Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Whole Grain Oat Flour, organic evaporated cane juice, organic maple syrup, water, organic coconut oil, organic dutch cocoa powder, organic semi-sweet chocolate chips, tapioca flour, less than 2% of: organic vanilla extract, baking soda, sea salt, almond extract, xanthan gum, baking powder aluminum free”
Run! Run now! Run and get you some!
